The Daily Grind: Do you play MMOs contrary to their design?

I want a new... arsenal.

If you play Final Fantasy XIV, you know that it is not a game that rewards players for playing multiple characters. Quite the opposite, in fact; the game assumes that you’ll pick one character and stick with that character through thick and thin. Meanwhile, here I sit with two different max-level, well-geared characters, another character near the level cap, and another two characters who are quickly coming up toward the expansion content. And I’m thinking of more. And my main is leveling everything.

This is very much contrary to the design of Final Fantasy XIV, but you can do it, and I’ve elected to do so. And I don’t think I’m the only one in that situation. So what about you, dear readers? What games have you played in a way that’s completely contrary to what you know to be the stated design goals of the game? Completely PvE play in EVE Online? Nothing but PvP in Star Trek Online? Dedicated pacifism in World of Warcraft? Tell us about it!

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
