The Daily Grind: Do you prefer having your own solo adventuring party?

One of my secret gaming delights is when I can finagle it in an MMORPG to effectively have a small party of adventurers all under my thumb. Basically, leading a whole pack of pets or combat NPC assistants.

Sometimes an MMO is designed to give one this, such as City of Heroes’ Mastermind or Guild Wars 2’s Necromancer. Sometimes I have to hodge-podge it together, such as playing a Warden in Elder Scrolls Online with my bear and adding a companion from Blackwood on top of that. But the end result is all the same: A little virtual party that I’m leading and fighting alongside.

I find this sort of setup a whole lot of fun, kind of like taking pet classes to the next level. Are there any likeminded souls out there? Do you like or prefer having your own solo adventuring party? Bonus points if you’re the first person in the comments to grouse that “the reason we play multiplayer games is to group up!”

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
