Destiny 2 drops new Final Shape trailer as Steam concurrency is booming

Do long delays make the heart grow fonder? Maybe not, but they sure do give the video team a lot more time to make epic trailers, which is what I choose to take away from Bungie’s new trailer for Destiny 2’s The Final Shape.

“Guardians will travel into The Pale Heart of the Traveler to aid the Vanguard leading to a final confrontation with their ultimate adversary, the Witness,” Bungie intones. “The final cinematic for Season of the Wish and the year of Lightfall was revealed last week, which featured the first encounter of Cayde-6 and Crow inside the Traveler.”

The proper launch of the expansion is June 4th, so just a week to go, and apparently, players are properly hyped. As Forbes noticed, D2 Steam concurrency is way up (cresting 125,000) thanks to the Into the Light midseason update – more than double what it was at the top of the year. Whether it can top Lightfall’s 316K concurrency record is still up in the air, but hopefully, Bungie is smiling smugly at Sony right now.
