One Shots: I took a picture THIS big!

When you take the best screenshot in the world and want to impress your friends, do you find that you end up exaggerating a tiny bit? Perhaps with wide-flung arm motions and tall tales of shutter speed and multiple lenses?

Reader Matthew dishes up a boast for us from Elder Scrolls Online: “This screenshot amuses me for two reasons. Firstly, my friend Jacob and I met up yesterday for the first time in a week and discovered that we’d somehow dyed our gear almost the same color. Secondly, Jacob decided to mess around whilst I was taking a screenshot but his dancing animation plus my character’s idle ‘look around’ animation has randomly made it look as though Jacob’s Dragon Knight is telling my Sorceror how big the monster he just killed in the dungeon behind us was!”

This is when kobolds mysteriously transform into elder dragons through the power of storytelling. Onward and upward!

I really liked Little Bugbear’s submission of the Hellfire Peninsula skybox, because it reminded me of how stunned we were back in 2007 when we stepped into World of Warcraft’s first expansion and found ourselves drinking in a shattered alien world. It’s strange to me that what was once the cutting edge of newness is now considered ancient history.

“Having replaced many older computer components earlier this year, I reinstalled my most-played games,” Rees Racer wrote. “I hadn’t thought of TERA much recently until this little column about 10 days ago. I essentially started over with a human female Warrior, and have been having a lot of fun. Here she is with the Golden Dragon weapon skins… outrageously comical in practicality, but you’ve got to embrace the insanity and go with it!”

Mysecretid tackles a space archaeological excavation: “Destiny is an MMORPG which uses shooter mechanics for the action, even if Bungie doesn’t want to admit it. I did manage to get a nice pic from a cutscene, as I was about to enter a foreboding temple on the moon.”

While Frodo was running the One Ring into Mordor, Ryuen was off setting up a kingdom to himself in Lord of the Rings Online.

“I’ve spent a lot of time working lately but the ‘Dwarf with delusions of royalty’ found himself in some throne room in Angmar last week so here’s another shot of my character taking a well deserved break,” Ryuen said. “Unfortunately those Angarim dudes do not fashion their thrones with wider Dwarf posteriors in mind.”

Every so often I like to put out a call for MMO screenshots that get “up close and personal” with their subjects. Have you gotten in really close to something for a picture? Let’s see it!

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!
