I don’t see why PUBG can’t hit much more – they have a good foundation: good, well-known game engine which is relatively easy to work with and can be used to make the game look “modern” enough and perform great when properly implemented/utilized + pretty competent people developing it and the whole development process is much more rapid compared to any competitor. All they need is to make the game stable and bug-free enough for a proper, non-“EarlyAccess” release and then start expanding it by adding different “official” game modes (such as AI zombie – infested “Survival” + some sort of RP modes, with less timers and more persistent world) and they can easily double the current numbers of players.

Keep in mind that’s concurrent players. They have 11 or 12 million total.
So when you think about that, over 10% of the registered players were on at the same time.
Or 0.02% of the Earth’s population was playing the same video game at the same time.
That’s pretty impressive.

I’m kind of expecting WoW’s next big pvp gimmick to be a BG version of this.

I would not be surprised to see PUBG hit 2 million concurrent players by the end of the year just on PC (Xbox launch is immanent). Even with Fortnite doing their F2P battle royale mode, PUBG’s is still hitting new peaks, having passed 1.6 million concurrent this weekend.
