The Ancient Gaming Noob doesn’t mince words in a recent essay: He found Tarisland pretty annoying right from the start. One key complaint? The movement controls.
“What I cannot abide is how Tarisland has decided to setup their movement controls, which is the same way that V Rising chose to do it, where it is mostly the FPS model, but you need to hold down the right mouse button to engage directional control. And I get why you might want to consider this in a title where you might need the cursor free to do other things.”
Read on for more blogs on MMOs, including WoW Classic, FFXIV, Fallout 76, and more!
The Last Chapter Gaming Blog talked about rescuing a WoW Classic hardcore character from permadeath: “As it turns out, you can always transfer them from the Death Realm to a Classic Era Realm where they can live their lives, and when misadventure strikes, it’s OK. You don’t lose everything. I personally lost six characters and immediately deleted them. My husband lost approaching 30 characters, oops.”
Priest with a Cause mused about fresh start servers: “I’m the cliché of that person who has no time for MMOs anymore because she’s just too busy nowadays… except for me it’s not three jobs and a bunch of kids; it’s the fact that I’m already playing multiple MMOs that I’m emotionally invested in, so I just don’t have the time or energy to go no-life for a new launch, whether it’s a new game or just a new server.”
Kaylriene shared some tips about how to start FFXIV: Dawntrail well: “Perhaps an obvious item, but in order to unlock the 91-100 dungeons, trials, Arcadion raid, Echoes of Vana’diel, and all hunts, you need to get through the MSQ of Dawntrail. Until you do that, most of the recommendations I will make won’t even be accessible.”
Inventory Full has cooled on Tarisland as well: “Here’s where the old ‘better in beta’ thing (first cousin to the Early Access Paradox) raises its grizzled head. If I had such a good time a year ago, will I still have that good a time now, when nothing feels quite so fresh and new? It’s too early to say for sure, but my money’s on no.”
Dragonchasers got some legendary perks in Fallout 76: “So how does that work? How do you get stronger after level 50? Well it’s kind of a combination of your build, your gear, mutations, food and chem buffs, and legendary perks. That’s a lot, and I’m no pro, nor do I want to write a 10,000 word post no one will read, so today let’s just talk about the Legendary Perk system.”
The Nosy Gamer tallied up time spent on FFXIV’s expansions: “Looking at Steam this morning, I’ve spent a little over 6,300 hours in Final Fantasy XIV since 20 July 2019. And I realize next week begins a new journey as Creative Studio III launches the first expansion after the conclusion of the Hydaelyn–Zodiark arc.”
