MMO Week in Review: Eyes on EverQuest Next (June 7, 2015)
Were you too busy gaming this week to pay attention to MMO news? Get caught up every Sunday evening with Massively Overpowered’s Week in Review!

Hey, remember EverQuest Next? Daybreak does too, which is why it announced on Friday that it’s shifting developer attention to the unreleased title. There are caveats, of course; Daybreak won’t commit to a 2015 release, and Landmark is not being abandoned. “You can fully expect updates and hotfixes to Landmark as we continue with this development process; they are simply going to be on a less regular schedule than you guys have been accustomed to over the past year or so,” says Daybreak’s Terry Michaels.

It was a big week for MOBAs as well, with the launch of Heroes of the Storm and the sunset announcement for Infinite Crisis. Read on for the very best of this week’s MMO news and opinions.

Cramit ^ Yup.  Project mismanagement in it’s glory.  Go Smed.

I was interested, but that was back in 2009? when they were first talking about a new EQ.  EQ3, I guess.  They only had a couple pieces of artwork to show at that time, but it was something to start the itch.  Fast forward to 2012 and 2013 and the hype started again, leading up to the SOELive Reveal.  Wow, what a wrenching disappointment after that.  And now look where we are in 2015.  The ball has been dropped and kicked around so many times that people just don’t want to play their game anymore.  We’ve moved on.

Out of all of these, the real thing here is EQ:N.  We haven’t heard diddle crap about it for awhile now and everyone who is even interested in the game has been asking for updates for months now if not years.  To hear that they are FINALLY moving to work primarily on EQ:N sounds like a bit to little to late.  Half the ppl who were interested in the game have given up hope and who’s to blame them?  DBG has talked more about a game that was created to make EQ:N (Landmark) rather than the one that actually matters, EQ:N.  It sad really, that they felt this was something worth announcing.  Maybe if it was more like, “Hey, we’re gonna be focusing on EQ:N more but here is what we have so far <enter city video>” but thats not what we’re getting.  DBG has a lot of ground to cover if they want folks to care about EQ:N again.  Hell, the EQNext subreddit has under 10k subscribers for a reason, get it in gear DBG.

As for everything else, there isn’t much to worry about.  The sunsetting of IC still sucks and I hate to hear about it.  HoTS is out and we really won’t be able to tell how it’s doing for another couple of months, IMO, so holding pattern there.  Everything else is pretty much “standard news” and really doesn’t hold much water compared to the rest of it IMO.

Hard to believe anyone even thinks a 2015 release is remotely possible. Even a 2015 F&F alpha is exceedingly unlikely.

No mate, no eyes on EQN.
No more free publicity for this game, it had its chance.
Now they have to start earning. With solid work.

Had to re-read that opening line several times before I realized that “repop” = “The Repopulation.”
