One Shots: When the sun goes down over New Yang City

20

When the sun begins to set over the horizon in Blade and Soul, Utakata knows that another thrilling summer night is about to commence.

But for now? Now we look at that gorgeous pastel sky, listen to the birds call over the water, and feel a city settle down into slumber.

Ardra is calming down an angry Balrog in Lord of the Rings Online with a soothing light show. It’s the Balrog’s bedtime, and he’s not allowed to pass to go play in the yard with the other kids. Back to bed with you, you scamp!

“What to do on a long summer night?” asked Bereman99. “Why, enjoy an apples of course. My Final Fantasy XIV Elezen here is, of course, very protective of her apples. No sharing from this pirate-themed lady.”

Hikari had way too much fun singing through “Summer Nights” while posting every screenshot in the known universe as part of this epic display. To kick things off, however, there was a fireworks show in Star Citizen that was pretty nifty. Well, fireworks or an unfortunate accident in a space refinery that resulted in hundreds of deaths.

Poor Hurbster. Neglected too long, this daring screenshotter got walled up in some Elder Scrolls Online dungeon and forgotten about. Although we do have to question how Hurb decayed down to his skeleton but that candle hasn’t burned out yet.

My hand just slammed down on the big RESET button, which means that the screenshot slate is clear and we’re ready for another mysterious week of MMO picture submissions. What will yours be? I shall bite my nails in nervous anticipation.

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!

We hit Student1 last night, so I spent all day today in a housing rabbit hole, so as I said more Swords of Legends Online pictures

The Kenzaki Cay has all the amenities of your typical flying island, including crafting, gathering, manufacturing, relaxing shade, cool ponds and streams, and a lovely residence.

Recently, the Kenzaki family have begun rebuilding the old residence, though portions of the aging House of Light had to be left in place as the tree had grown over the wall and house.

My misadventures in Archeage have gone…”places” this past week. Places meaning in a deep grave for my squishy self, but alas, the game has some amazing vistas and interesting npcs and enemies but very hard to make a living once you’re past the….safe zones and peace periods

Something from Swords of Legends Online. I waited a bit before having a go, but I have been pleasantly surprised. Even if the translations/localisation isn’t quite satisfactory, the game itself is very solid…with plenty of things to do. I enjoy the Chinese aesthetic and mythology.

There a ton of great shots last week, I thought that Balrog shot was the best personally for individual shots; then there was a series of shots involving multiple games about boy meets girl (one of them from GW2 with the Giant Cats) that I thought was very ambitious and well put together.

I’m still trying to log into FF14 but I don’t think the game likes my router, I’m going to try to turn on my Hotspot function with my phone and tether it to see if a direct connection will help. If so I’ll drop some FF14 pictures tonight from the beginner zones.

Thank the gods for the reset button…I would have completely failed at any assigned task this week.

So here are some random shots I snapped this past week (yeah yeah so I used another fantasia, at this point that should just be a given).

Hmm, the last week has been so focused on gameplay with the Neverwinter Bard, BDO’s Quest for the Golden Yacht, SOLO leveling, and more that I haven’t taken a ton of screenshots. Maybe I’ll add some more later in the week :)

Hey :) Which game is this? It looks really cool. I’m guessing The Secret World, but…

Zombopolis is one of my favorite maps in my favorite multiplayer shooter and these 2 views show why (previously the Dr. Zomboss Statue of Liberty was featured from this map!), and I love how the devs make maps look dark but you can still see what is going on!

First, on my way from the park towards the cafe, I got a shot showing the impressive, zombified city, even grabbing a zomblimb over head as we approach Brain Street.

Then after capturing that cafe, we see the glory of the zombie Discotheque! That smaller floating disco ball will actually force you to dance (gesture) when you’re under it, making you vulnerable while you get down!

Last FF14 screenshot. I was loving the game until I discovered the MSQ is locked behind doing dungeons. So it’s not for me. I get panic attacks just doing RND dungeons with my mates in ESO. Bloody amazing game otherwise though. Might have taken over from ESO if not for the above, which is just me and my phobia.

I wish all games had a “story version” of dungeons that could be run solo – including ESO.

I have run a few in ESO, but I always feel like I am holding everyone up or not pulling my weight if I don’t rush, rush, rush like everyone else…..regardless of if I’m being yelled at by others in the group or not.

Here lies the industries’ opportunity to actually use some AI/Machine learning (versus the totally ridiculous and transparent bullshit marketing that is always behind those words) to cater to solo players, and groups of any size, increasing usage of those dungeons which they have already spent the money and time to create.

Oh, we always wait for people who have not done the dungeon before. It’s one of the reasons I only ever do in-guild runs and never pug one.

To be fair, you can solo ESO dungeons with solo builds. They just take some effort to build ( but they can be extremely low intensity ).

Reader
Hurbster

Funnily enough, most of my characters have solo builds.

That’s a shame–they have implemented the Trust system so folks can use a set of NPC characters (fellow Scions) to do the dungeons with but that is a level 80+ feature (currently).

At least you gave it a shot :)

The 4 Mans in FF14 are pretty easy from what I remember, and the community was very friendly; they even have this cool thing where you vote to give party members accommodations for doing well and being nice.
