Ship of Heroes refurbs its camera, addresses feedback, and floats another demo event

Following up on what it characterizes as a “highly successful beta demo” during Steam Next Fest, Heroic Games has a new dev blog and video up on Ship of Heroes’ camera and future plans. “We’re adding a camera menu to the Interface options, to allow control of how the camera moves and where it is aimed relative to your character,” the studio says. “This will accommodate individual preferences.” The video has a full demo showing off the pitch, yaw, and rotation settings.

“By far the most common request was for your character to always stay in the middle of the screen. Since this was the majority request, the default on camera controls will now be set for zero camera lag. But those who wanted something different can increase camera lag in the game’s settings.”

Beyond the camera, the team is working on feedback from the event. “Apart from bug-fixing, we’ve also been working hard to address some server issues that affected combat and chat log continuity across instance changes,” Heroic says, rattling off a list of tasks that includes improved combat, new missions, holiday content, new hair, and new costumes.

The team concludes with a note saying it’s planning to run another potentially holiday-themed demo event in the future and inviting players to sign up to be a more permanent tester, presumably through the game’s launch, which has moved on off to 2024.

Readers will recall that a few weeks ago, the game’s own official website leaked a public mock-up page with a pricing plan that did not go over well with MMO gamers. Heroic, however, denied to MOP that the page represented the game’s final pricing scheme and indeed suggested that its website had been hacked by malicious actors. It did not respond to a follow-up inquiry about the purported hack.
