Elder Scrolls Online’s Morrowind is finally here! Watch the new launch trailer

The Elder Scrolls Online’s Morrowind not-an-expansion has formally launched today for PC and even on console, where those of you who couldn’t participate in the head start have surely been patiently waiting.

ZeniMax’s Matt Firor has thanked players, especially beta testers. “This new Chapter in The Elder Scrolls Online saga brings more than just a new, open world to explore,” he writes in today’s producer’s letter. “We are introducing the Warden (the game’s first brand-new class since launch), a brand new PvP game mode with Battlegrounds, and a new, challenging Trial with the Halls of Fabrication. As I have said many times, ESO is designed to give players the freedom to play the way that they want to play. We began building this experience by removing the barriers to exploration in the One Tamriel update last year, and we’ve further built upon that concept in ESO: Morrowind, which features PvE, PvP, and even solo-focused content.”

There’s also a tease in there for future content and E3. “The world of Tamriel is only going to get bigger,” he says.

We’ve got the new trailer, our pre-launch streams, and a full roundup of all our Morrowind content to date down below. Read quickly, Outlander, or go away!

Less than a quarter of our poll respondents a few weeks ago said they were in the head start, with another fifth saying they would play later and a solid half saying they either weren’t playing or were undecided. How do we stand now?

Are you playing ESO Morrowind? (Official launch version)

  • I was in the head start or will begin today (51%, 107 Votes)
  • I am not playing Morrowind yet or I am still undecided (28%, 59 Votes)
  • I will not be buying or returning to the game at all (15%, 32 Votes)
  • No response / view poll (6%, 12 Votes)

I’m trying to decide whether to give this a shot. I never played the original ESO. Is Morrowind a stand alone game? Expansion? Can I just buy it and start playing? Thanks for any help

I am not playing ESO:M but I have the base game (no DLC) and I am not intending on leaving it behind, so maybe, uh, I’ll get to Morrowind (and possibly a separate character to start in it) in 2018…2019…. :P

played the beta and that was reassurance to not buy it. Morrowind is nothing more than dlc sold with an underwhelming warden class and broken battlegrounds that are disappointing and poorly implemented. They compared “chapters” to other mmo expansions and that couldn’t be farther from the truth. They used the morrowind nostalgia and cashed in.

Morrowind has the same amount of content in it that orsinium did when I got that for subbing with my eso plus membership. They even tried to throw eso plus members a bone and give them more bank space to compensate for them screwing their loyal playerbase. I have supported this game since the beginning and will no longer be giving them any money. If you like a story that you can casually finish within 2 days and a pretty zone to look at that’s about all you will get out of morrowind.

Already finished the Morrowind story line and all of the side quests I came across. Very satisfying. Rolled a new Dark Elf Warden for it and ended up level 20 when my quest log emptied. Now I’m back in the main world running quests I never ran before, since my other characters started off on the west coast before the One Tamriel update.

I have to admit that I didn’t like them calling me Outlander all the time, even though I was a Dark Elf. I guess that’s pretty minor given how much it would affect voice-overs if they wanted to change that for such a small percentage of the population.

Anyway, I think it was well worth playing. Still have a bunch of achievements to finish up there as well.

Ordered and already playing, having a great time so far, but no plans to use a Warden just yet. Question for people though: was there supposed to be a skill reset? I got a pop-up saying there was but all my points were still allocated. Any ideas?

Since Beta, I’ve been dungeoning with my warden and it’s been great.
I mean, I will not abandon my templar that will remain my main character as a PvE/PvP healer but the warden is really a fun class to play.

I LOVE “jack-of-all-trades” classes… Reminds me of my bard on EverQuest.

ESO is one of the few MMOs on the market that has progressively gotten better over time. Usually it’s the other way around with MMOs.

I’ve been playing early release. The storylines in Morrowind are riveting, and I found myself unable to log out because I wanted to know a story’s end before bedtime. It was like reading a good book. xD

I preordered when the xpac was first announced, but I haven’t logged in yet. I’m not quite sure why, but I think it’s in large part the very numerous and loud voices proclaiming just how underwhelming the Warden is, both STA and Mag. Shame, really.
