One Shots: Private retreats

Where do you go to get away from it all in an MMORPG? If you look hard enough, you might find a special private retreat that offers solitude, peace, and — if you’re lucky — three-ply toilet paper.

“How often do you come across an outhouse while out on adventures?” Toy Clown asked. “Sadly it wasn’t hidden enough in World of Warcraft, as there was a line.”

Utakata’s Blade and Soul retreat is more natural: just a quiet and calm glade kissed by sunbeams. It definitely looks like the kind of place I’d like to bring a book and curl up for a few hours.

“Fairly sure a lot of people have seen this little beach in Costa del Sol in Final Fantasy XIV,” posted MolleaFauss.

That’s true, Mollea, but I’ve always found it bizarre that there’s this huge beach resort about a stone’s throw from killer monsters. Of course, if the world’s going to end around you, this is where I’d want to be.

Sometimes an image from an MMORPG can tell a story completely by itself. That’s the case with Hurbster’s Elder Scrolls Online contribution here. Sad, yet I want to know more.

IronSalamander8 takes us to this fluffy snowy retreat in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. There’s an apology for the UI, but since you can’t turn it off, it’s hardly the fault of the screenshotter.

Your life will lack a purpose unless I give it one, so here is your screenshot challenge of the week: Take a picture of “impossible architecture” in your MMO that couldn’t be constructed without a whole lot of magic and artistic liberties.

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!
