One Shots: Please, please stand in the fire

While any seasoned MMORPG player may look at our first screenshot, courtesy of Utakata in Blade and Soul, and start developing sympathetic twitches, don’t be alarmed. Sometimes, just sometimes, it is quite good to stand in the fire.

I mean, granted, I have no idea if this is one of those times, but I trust Utakata’s adventuring sense and can allow for the possibility that it’s for tanning purposes, to roast a marshmallow, or because this unlocks a secret cow level of some sort. In any case, flame on!

And over in Final Fantasy XIV, IronSalamander8’s character is logging onto the internet and playing an MMO within the MMO. It’s quite meta, just roll with it.

“This is very Voltron-esque, as my Warrior of Light deals with a solo duty as part of the Werlyt quest chain,” Iron writes as loud modem connection sounds can be heard in the background.

Sleepy has a fun story of exploring abandoned event instances: “This week I had the slightly creepy experience of logging into Winterhome in LOTRO with a toon that had been parked there since Christmas. Rather than porting you straight out of the instance, you get to see it mostly deserted. There’s one person sweeping up and most of the locals are out in the snowman field. Most of them…”

Also in Lord of the Rings Online, Ardra Diva is taking a well-deserved snow day. That’s what we’re calling it, at least, because “semi-frozen and lost in the middle of the woods while a pack of manhunting wolves close in” doesn’t quite have the same charm.

Finally, Katriana documented a weird occurrence in Guild Wars 2: “This is a shot of an odd effect that my Sylvari Ranger got while doing the Roots of Terror instance in the Heart of Thorns storyline (complete with her gasping for breath for a moment, getting knocked down and then having wavy-screen-drunk-effect for 30 secs or so afterwards). I was doing it with a couple friends that I’ve been going through the story with and neither of them had this happen to their character.”

Have fun playing your games this week — and hit the print screen key a few times along the way, why not? Then head back here and post those magical glimpses into your legendary adventures!

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!
