Global Chat: What’s World of Warcraft Cataclysm’s best zone?

Wilhelm over at The Ancient Gaming Noob kicks off our tour of various MMO essays as he lists and ranks all of the zones that make up Cataclysm Classic. So what’s the winner? And is it even possible to figure out?

“All of that brings me to my own problem, which is how to even rank these five zones when you can see systemic issues that can’t be laid at the feet of any specific zone but the overall design philosophy of the expansion?”

Read on for more MMO essays about Wizard101, Guild Wars 2, World of Warcraft and more!

The Friendly Necromancer made a splashy return to Wizard101 and its troublesome sewers: “As it turns out the sewers of Wizard City are actually old tombs and there are some Dragonspyre ghosts here thanks to a time when a power-hungry prince from Dragonspyre tried to wage war on Wizard City. Got it.”

Blessing of Kings explored The War Within’s endgame: “The other major new content is Delves, which have been on a rollercoaster of bug-fixing and difficulty adjustments. I think Blizzard will sort everything out. I do feel like the community seems to take it for granted that they should be able to do Tier 8 even while under-geared. It’s not the end of the world if people gear up in lower tiers.”

Guild Wars 2 GW2 Colin

Why I Game got to know Guild Wars 2’s Ascalonian Catacombs: “Needless to say, AC story wasn’t a problem. I messed around with Explorable Path 3 and got through eventually, with significant problem-solving and pauses; got a bugged Detha in Path 2 and sulked; tried Path 1 and got utterly bamboozled by the race to kill graveling burrows before Hodgkins died (problems for another day and maybe another class).”

Priest with a Cause experimented with WoW alts: “One month in, I’m honestly still not sure which class I’d like to play more than any other, but I’ve had time to do a bit of exploring at least, as this expansion is very alt-friendly even if you’re only playing on a relatively slow and casual level.”

Dragonchasers felt out Fallout 76’s new caravan system: “So overall and at first blush, I’m pretty happy with the new caravan system. We’ll see if it holds up as an entertaining way to spend time after I’ve dug into it more.”

Inventory Full is spoiled for choice with MMOs this year: “This year so far my focus MMORPGs (or open world online RPGs or open world survival games — the boundaries are blurry now.) have been Palworld, Nightingale, Wuthering Waves, and Once Human. That’s four pretty solid titles in about six months.”
