This week, MMORPG emulators pushed to the forefront of the news thanks to World of Warcraft emulator server Nostalrius, whose administrators decided to halt the project under threat of legal action from Blizzard Entertainment. The fact that the server boasted 150,000 active accounts prompted a spirited gamer debate over copyright ownership, the value of vanilla servers, and whether Blizzard ought to heed a 57,000*-signature petition to legitimize Nostalrius or set up retro servers of its own.
