As Ashes of Creation takes aim at the $3M line for its Kickstarter campaign, Intrepid Studios announced that it has made several significant hires to its development team, some of which come from the Daybreak fold.

The hires include Lead Economic Designer Rocco Scandizzo (Psyop Games), Lead Programmer Kevin McPherson (EverQuest, PlanetSide, Vanguard, and Shadowbane), Lead Technical Designer Akil Hooper (EverQuest II, Fallout: New Vegas), Senior Character Artist Mat Broome (H1Z1, DCUO, PlanetSide 2, EverQuest), and Alex Khudoliy (Amazon).

Another interesting announcement is that Intrepid is partnering with Panopticon Labs to develop fraud detection and prevention tools for the game to make it as secure as possible.

Ashes of Creation devs will be on hand this evening at 6:00 p.m. EDT for a final Kickstarter livestream. The team also posted a brief video showing some of the winter effects in the different game environments, which you can watch below.

Gee, I hope that fraud detection software works.

Now this is a very confusing statement. Are you talking about the games new Stock market system being unlocked, the game itself, or is this a play on both?

I love how each of these vids has some minor, but nice detail – here we have NPCs trying to keep warm at 1:25 and the freehold at 0:45 is the one shown in previous daylight / summer videos – but this time with a more suitable dark smoke rising from the forge.

Inb4 the unemployed Kickstarter crucifiers, bash the game with petty memes and pledge refund ‘pat on the backs’. Go play an EA or Blizzard game you uninspiring carebears!

Edit: Sorry, had to get that out. Keep doing MOP the justice it deserves, Justin! Long live crowdfunding!

If the game actually releases and is good, I’ll happily pay money for it – But in general, I don’t make a habit out of loaning out hard earned dollar bills (from my definitely not unemployed bank account) to companies just for fun. On the wish and promise of what may or may not actually come to be – you wanna give out a loan to a corporation that earns no interest, good on you.

I’ll wait till there’s actually a product to purchase though.

My takeaway was that Winter was a season in the game not an environment, was I wrong in that?

Those terms aren’t exclusive. Pedantics aside though, yes, winter is a season that will rotate during weekly maintenance.

The game also has biomes though, so I assume that you’ll see some areas of the game that are snowy year round (and possibly more snowy during the winter).

It’s just that Environments or biomes have always been static in mmo’s to my knowledge, so an mmo with actual season’s would be a banner feature.

Environment just refers to how a scene is set at any particular time. It cycling or being dynamic doesn’t make it not an environment.

Black Desert Online has seasonal changes of weather, as well as the environment changes with it. It’s one of the things I love about it. Admittedly, while there’s lots of things I love about BDO, I dislike that so much of the things I enjoy, such as outfits and furniture, are locked behind the cash shop at pretty steep prices.

I’m keeping an eye on AoC. It looks like it’s starting to shape up as a contender for BDO, and it’s made all the more appealing with Western devs. Usually it’s the Koreans who pull off beautiful graphics, but group up gameplay with PvP and grinds.

Indeed, they are just showing how the winter season looks in different environments that each have a full range of seasons. For more details I found this article http://massivelyop.com/2017/01/24/ashes-of-creation-details-the-progress-of-seasons/

You’re not wrong in that, they’ve shown time lapses of regions moving from season to season. From my understanding based on their live streams, weather will be dynamic and change.
