Make My MMO: Dual Universe’s EVE Online inspiration, Ashes of Creation’s publisher, and Star Citizen’s free-fly (August 25, 2018)

This week week in MMO crowdfunding, Dual Universe was among the handful of in-development MMORPGs that brought the goods to Gamescom; in one of several interviews trickling out of the con now, Novaquark’s JC Baillie shows off the game and even fields a question comparing the game to EVE Online. “There are some things in EVE that we really like,” he explains. “Actually, we hired the original designer of EVE Online! But we want to make the game absolutely accessible to anybody. The thing is that it’s easy to do certain things [in DU], but if you want to go deeper, you can. That’s what it’s about.”

Ashes of Creation also made headlines this week with its controversial decision to use My.com as its European and CIS publisher. Meanwhile, City of Titans and Valiance Online teased good stuff, Albion Online tweaked Merlyn, Camelot Unchained recapped its ongoing beta, Project Oasis’ Kickstarter failed to fund, and the Codename Reality Kickstarter continues to falter. But hey, AdventureQuest 3D‘s plushies Kickstarter is now over $80,000. So there’s that. And what kind of Make My MMO week would it be without a Star Citizen concept ship sale? Even better, there’s a free-fly going on right now.

Read on for more on what’s been up with MMO crowdfunding over the last couple of weeks and our roundup of all the crowdfunded MMOs we’re following.

Wow, someone at RSI must really be desperate for more money to offer a free weekend when the game is still so f@#$ing broken.

Disclaimer: I backed Star Citizen for $50 for a single player game which I’ve given up on (yes, I know they’re supposedly working on it).

A free weekend must mean they’re pretty confident that they’ve finally stitched all their various bits together, right? Nope.

I installed it, fired it up, waited 15 minutes for it to unpack, fell through the floor. Restarted, waited another 15 minutes, got in my ship, okay. Tried to go through a door, couldn’t open the door. This is a known issue. I quit, restarted, waited another 15 minutes, went through the door.

Went back, launched my ship… I’ve got an i7, Nvidia 1080, and a slideshow. Crashed into the station.

Sighed, tried to delete the game. Oh, it’s not that easy. Had to duckduckgo how to actually delete the game.

tl;dr Wow, this is such a f#$ing shitshow for how old it is. Seven years later and I’m still falling through the floor in the opening area.

I tried it myself this weekend I couldn’t believe after so many years in development how poor a state it was in .

The pay to win element of this game is a concern also . If someone can spend 200+ dollars on a ship I can’t see how that doesn’t buy you some advantage in a game with pvp in it .
