Massively OP’s holiday gift guide for Marvel Heroes & superhero MMO fans

If you’re a superhero fan or close to someone who is, you are certainly not lacking for options as to where to spend gobs of cash this holiday season. Between the movies, comics, TV shows, and (especially in our case) the games, superpowered entertainment is bursting to both thrill you and ask you for a minor financial donation.

Today I’m going to run you down a few ways that you could buy a present for that loved one (which includes you, because you’re so lovable) who is into superhero MMOs that ranges from the affordable to the rather pricey. From Marvel Heroes to DC Universe Online (and, um, those… other games?), here’s what I would recommend!

1. Marvel Heroes Mega Pack Mark III

What does practically every Marvel Heroes player want? The heroes! Normally heroes take a while to accumulate, and with Gazillion putting them out all of the time, it’s hard to stay current. The Mega Pack is a shortcut to getting a huge chunk of them (43 in this case) with a ton of goodies to boot. It’s not every hero in the game, but if you wait for a sale, you could be getting a great deal indeed — and 43 heroes is a whole lotta gameplay no matter what!

Too pricey for you? Then why not buy a smaller pack, such as the Age of Ultron bundle?

2. Infinite Crisis soundtrack

Even though Infinite Crisis is no more (R.I.P.), its incredibly good and underrated soundtrack is still available to purchase. If you want to get one of the best superhero OSTs of the year, look no further. There’s a great range of exciting and memorable themes, with some major heroes (such as Superman and Batman) getting more than one.

3. Game point codes

Yes, perhaps it’s right up there with all the rest of gift cards in terms of unoriginality and a lack of special thought, but let’s face it — the person you’ll be buying this for knows far better than you what he or she wants in the game. So why not let your loved one handle the transaction?

Marvel Heroes has card bundles that range from 500 Gs to 5,500 Gs and everything in between. Meanwhile, you could drop some money on the DC Universe Online Ultimate Edition bundle or snap up some Daybreak Cash (which unfortunately isn’t giftable as of right now). Champions Online is still selling usable game time cards that give 60 days of gold-level membership, too.

4. Marvel Encyclopedia

If the large — and ever-expanding — roster of characters in Marvel Heroes has you scratching your head wondering  who these people are, why not invest in a massive encyclopedia that doubles as a handy bug-smasher? There’s tons of artwork in it and it gives any fan of the game a great way to get a handle on the comic book universe.

Hey, it beats buying instantly outdated strategy guides. Seriously. Making and selling print guides for MMOs should be illegal.

5. A walk down City of Heroes memory lane

Chances are that if you’re a superhero MMO fan, then you have some sort of history with City of Heroes. If that history was good and your life right now is bleak due to the lack of CoH, then there are always the trappings of the game that can still be purchased.

Some of the City of Heroes-themed merchandise out there include one of the game’s novels, the official comic, the collector’s edition (which contains some physical items), the City of Villains collector’s edition (ditto), the Going Rogue soundtrack, or even an archetype t-shirt?
