Massively OP Podcast Episode 190: SWTOR Unite!

11

On this week’s show, Bree and Justin say farewell to Blizzard’s Mike Morhaime, eye the launch of Lineage II Classic, share first-hand experiences in MapleStory 2, talk with the community about a special SWTOR event, and more!

It’s the Massively OP Podcast, an action-packed hour of news, tales, opinions, and gamer emails! And remember, if you’d like to send in your own letter to the show, use the “Tips” button in the top-right corner of the site to do so.

Listen to the show right now:

Note: During this episode of the podcast, we unwittingly made two errors worth of correcting: NCsoft’s currency is called NCoin, and Lineage 2 Classic does not have a sub but rather a VIP rewards program that scales based on how much players spend in the cash shop.
This podcast episode was sponsored by NCsoft.

I found the fanbois view of the state fo SWTOR fairly amusing.

What essentially boiled down too “Yeah games in good shape, our server busy, people joining our guild every day honest!!…oh but they totally realise the next update is make or break because of how everything has gone down like a lead balloon since Shadow of Revan… but they’ll turn it around, im sure”!!!

Bless.. you have to love blindly naieve positivity, why would a healthy game be worried about their next expansion being make or break unless it had SERIOUS issues? Maybe time to be a little honest with himself.

I hope he’s right I honestly do, but I won’t be holding my breath, my faith in the remaining development team is a tiny smidgeon above zero at this point.

A couple of times a year I start to miss SWTOR and reup for a two month sub, but yeah, I completely agree in that I’ve not been overly thrilled with what they’ve done since Shadow of Revan. And even with SoR, despite the nice new planets and a few interesting quests, they went from eight stories down to two down to one. Come to think of it, Star Trek Online kind of did the same thing when they stopped doing Klingon-exclusive content and had everyone converge on the same path. Cost-cutting measures I guess.

“This podcast episode was sponsored by NCsoft.”

Is it really? Or is this a joke and I’m being an idiot.

Lineage 2 Classic commercial just embedded into the conversation…awkward..glad you’re making money, tho.
I’d prefer it if there was a clear line drawn that you’re doing a paid promotion, because it kind of makes me question everything else you’re saying during the podcast. Maybe, that’s not an option. I don’t know, but I still enjoy listening…

(It’s literally stated at the beginning and end of the episode and in the post that NCsoft sponsored the whole episode.)

Yes it is, but the last time I remember hearing that it was followed by a bunch of news, mostly bad, about NCSoft games. So I thought it was a joke.

I think it’s great that NCSoft has sponsered the podcast!

I understand that and, like I said, good for you that you have a sponsor, but I just wish you’d present the “sponsored” part differently..
Like, if you said, “Our sponsor NCSoft has a new game out..here’s what it’s all about…” instead of being like, “Hey, Justin, did you hear that Lineage 2 Classic just launched?? It’s so cool…”
It’s just about honesty and your opinion and Justin’s opinion is what the listeners value here(and we still do!), so if it has to be this way…I’ll just try to compartmentalize that portion of the show.
Sorry to come off so negative. I just wanted to give my feedback. Maybe, I should’ve just sent a message instead..

Bree did a big explanation and disclaimer thing in the previous podcast about why they’re taking sponsorship money and what that means and how they are not obligated to say flattering things about their sponsor, etc. She probably just didn’t feel it was necessary to do a long-winded repeat of that every episode. :)

Yeah, I wasn’t trying to confuse people – just not bore you! I should’ve anyway just for folks who don’t listen to every single episode. They are only sponsoring a few episodes total, and there’s one more where they requested we talk about a different game using our own words, so on that one I will re-emphasize it.

I definitely appreciate the feedback. I’d also be curious to hear whether people think we should abandon this type of thing or whether you preferred the more “commercial” type podcast ads that we did for ArenaNet a while back. (We are NOT doing any of this for articles, just the podcast.) Our ad network’s marketing of the podcast is a relatively new thing, so we’re definitely still working through what works best, is most ethical, and isn’t annoying to listeners.

I hope Legend of Aria find success and offer official PVE servers.

How WoW will end? no body can guess that, but it will always involve another game, a new game, in an interview with one game developer who wrote a book and funded it in Kickstarter, he talked about how there was a plan to make WoW a sandbox game.

This is one dream i have, WoW sandbox from Blizzard, more focus on the world and less on the story.

As far as I have read most of the map in LoA is PVE, with optional PVP zones for more risk reward gathering, questing etc.
