One Shots: Bring me a shrubbery!

20

When has something as mundane and nondescript as a bush ever been a helpful hero? And when have we ever featured a MapleStory screenshot at the very top of One Shots? Some days, the normal way of things is turned upside-down.

Minimalistway brought us this pretty pic, saying, “In MapleStory, you can’t hide player names. I found this beautiful place and it had a foreground shrub to hide my character name!”

Also, people are playing MapleStory? ‘Tis a gloriously wide gaming world!

This past week I asked for visual examples of things that our readers found annoying in MMOs. We got several interesting responses from this, starting with Miol’s rant from a Guild Wars 2 routine.

“Something annoying, you say?” asked Miol. “Try getting an earfull from a relentless priest, every time when you just want to conduct your business or make a visit at the local bank, for seven years! ‘Please go away, old man! I really don’t care about your Six Gods! I even killed one of them recently! Actually, most of the players you see here did the same to your god as well!'”

“Things that annoy me: being indecisive about my choice of drink at the bar and people who wear Halloween outfits in the first week of October,” said Vincent.

Technically, isn’t everyone in Final Fantasy XIV wearing a costume? Halloween is year-round, baby!

“There are definitely things that annoy me,” said Rafael. “And I will get to that when I can pull away from Destiny 2. It will be a while though. A good long while. In the meantime, how about a quick cap of what I’m looking at right now in D2? F2P is looking pretty good right now, wouldn’t you say?”

Does Blade and Soul know that you’re cheating on it? Can you look at it in the eyes when you return, knowing that you forever sullied your computer after an affair with that loot shooter?

When you’re annoyed with all these things in MMOs, it’s best to just get away, relax, and do something that brings peace to your jellies. I’m of course talking about the sacred online pasttime of fishing, which Hirku demonstrates very well here in Lord of the Rings Online.

What do you do as a relaxing exercise in an MMO? What takes you out of the normal routine and puts your mind at ease? Show us for this week’s screenshot challenge!

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!

The nostalgia of doing festival activities has always been a reliable source of relaxing exercises.
The older the festival activity the better!

Ha, thanks for including me as the annoyance antidote.

A relaxing exercise for me is doing the normal/easy version of the Eden raids in FF14. I was also bored…content lull :(

@Justin, thanks for the shout out

Ah, Nabaath Aiming gear. I prefer the Ravel Keeper’s gear from the previous dungeon, myself.

Lol! Does Blade and Soul know I’m cheating on it? Heh. Well, it is sort of an open relationship. BnS is cheating on me with Korea centric decisions. I’m aware of it. So… hello Destiny 2. LOL! Jk. BnS is still my home. It’s just not exclusive anymore.

So getting back to relaxing. Sometimes all you need is a nice view and a break from the action. I don’t mind taking a knee and surveying my surroundings in a zen state while playing Destiny 2. But, bla! blap! blap! is back on in 10 minutes.

…the pigtails have noticed your absence from there. :(

Oh… no. I’ll be back soon. I swear. I still have that Archer that I’m working on. I just got to Silverfrost Mountains too.

When I am not at my machine which contains all my screens because I am away for the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend I do yoga stretching with the pigtails and ask the readers to imagine said appendages doing yoga stretching in place of a screen shot I am unable to reproduce for this week’s One Shots…

…a wall of a run on sentence can also make a great screen shot filler I thinks. >.<

This is the second time Maplestory is in top, first time was Dancing for Chicken™ screenshot:

One Shots: Time for the chicken dance

Thank you for both, and yes, people playing Maplestory, it’s a charming game and my place to runaway from stress, grinding in this game is way more fun than any other game.

And at least 1 Maplestory 2. :)

One Shots: Officially Sanctioned Sunday Afternoon Nap Hour

I thought about pulling out some AQW, but already have 10 shots posted. :)

Well, MMOs generally are relaxing. I’d say it’s out of the norm when it puts me into something frustrating that I can’t just stop doing. The occasional badly designed mission or jumping puzzle.

I guess, exploring and just enjoying the scenery qualifies, but then… this is what I do. We just roam around for hours taking pictures, so here are a few.

GTA Online is a great example of underutilized exploration potential. It’s a pity the text chat program is horrible.

Like Rafael, I have been hanging out in Destiny 2 since the relaunch. I have been playing since orig launch, so I am mostly hanging out on the moon.

I do not like many shooter games, but Destiny 2 just feels really good.

I heard they made the new player experience much worse though. Hopefully they get that ironed out.

I am constantly thinking I should open up a confidential service where companies can ask me if a project or change to an existing project is a stupid idea with a response turn around time of 5 mins.

Nice cap!

BTW, I’d like to be a part of this service you speak of. Maybe we could include a “Your messaging sucks!” group. Before a corp sends out a global message we could give them feedback. Turn around, about three minutes.

One time when I was fed up at work and tired of repeatedly doing this type of thing, I told Senior Management: “I am not Gringodamus. I cannot see the future. These are all just really bad ideas you keep repeating.” -they were not amused.
