One Shots: Bring me a shrubbery!

When has something as mundane and nondescript as a bush ever been a helpful hero? And when have we ever featured a MapleStory screenshot at the very top of One Shots? Some days, the normal way of things is turned upside-down.

Minimalistway brought us this pretty pic, saying, “In MapleStory, you can’t hide player names. I found this beautiful place and it had a foreground shrub to hide my character name!”

Also, people are playing MapleStory? ‘Tis a gloriously wide gaming world!

This past week I asked for visual examples of things that our readers found annoying in MMOs. We got several interesting responses from this, starting with Miol’s rant from a Guild Wars 2 routine.

“Something annoying, you say?” asked Miol. “Try getting an earfull from a relentless priest, every time when you just want to conduct your business or make a visit at the local bank, for seven years! ‘Please go away, old man! I really don’t care about your Six Gods! I even killed one of them recently! Actually, most of the players you see here did the same to your god as well!'”

“Things that annoy me: being indecisive about my choice of drink at the bar and people who wear Halloween outfits in the first week of October,” said Vincent.

Technically, isn’t everyone in Final Fantasy XIV wearing a costume? Halloween is year-round, baby!

“There are definitely things that annoy me,” said Rafael. “And I will get to that when I can pull away from Destiny 2. It will be a while though. A good long while. In the meantime, how about a quick cap of what I’m looking at right now in D2? F2P is looking pretty good right now, wouldn’t you say?”

Does Blade and Soul know that you’re cheating on it? Can you look at it in the eyes when you return, knowing that you forever sullied your computer after an affair with that loot shooter?

When you’re annoyed with all these things in MMOs, it’s best to just get away, relax, and do something that brings peace to your jellies. I’m of course talking about the sacred online pasttime of fishing, which Hirku demonstrates very well here in Lord of the Rings Online.

What do you do as a relaxing exercise in an MMO? What takes you out of the normal routine and puts your mind at ease? Show us for this week’s screenshot challenge!

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!
