Interplanetary survival-crafting game Boundless, formerly known as Oort Online, has been in Early Access for quite some time, but today it celebrates its official launch on Steam as part of Square Enix’s indie publishing project. In developer Wonderstruck’s take on the popular voxel-building genre, players can explore countless planets, claim territory for their own, harvest resources, craft tools and weapons, build cities, hunt fearsome foes, and more, all in a massive universe inhabited by players from across the globe.

To celebrate the game’s launch, the devs have released a new trailer that previews what players will find in the world of Boundless. The video explores some of the varied planets and biomes that players will encounter and highlights some truly impressive architectural feats, and it also provides a glimpse at the game’s combat and trading systems. You can check out the full trailer after the cut, or pick it up for $39.99 US on Steam.

This looks too much reminiscent of Sky Saga for sure… that game had cuter characters, and a bad ending.

Just spent three hours watching youtube reviews and reading the guides on Steam. This looks to me like a worthy successor to EQ Landmark! Many of the systems seem directly related, from the ways you claim land and pay monthly upkeep on it to the way the word regenerates. In one of the menus I even saw a grapple. I will definitely be playing this soon.

The ideas don’t seem bad, but those characters are… a turnoff for me. Personal taste. I like almost everything else (still not a fan of the blocky stuff, although I can understand that other people seem to be).

Pass for me, hope that other people enjoy it! Maybe some of the ideas will eventually influence something more my pace/style.

I’m the same way. Some folks love the stylized characters, and others (like thee and me) don’t. So it goes.

Boundless looks well-made and interesting, but I’m also pretty deeply invested in some other “creation” computer games right now.

Not sure I have the gaming time, and the brain real-estate to jump into another highly personalized “creation” game at this time. They do tend to require more focus and interaction from a player than the standard theme-park MMORPG.

Cheers,

It doesn’t sound like PVP is a big focus. I can’t find the words pvp anywhere on their site.

IronSalamander8 .

I never encountered any PvP at all. I’m not even sure how it works to be honest. I did see other players in game but not often and never had combat with them, mostly just admiring their builds.

And I couldn’t be more thankful for that. So many “PVP Sandbox” games out these days….

Cant justify the 40 dollar price tag, but its something ill certainly give a shot when it drops to around 20

It’s pretty cool to be sure. It has an interesting skill system and you can go to other worlds to get different colored and power materials to build and make tools with, the claim system seemed to work well, it has some cool visuals, and the music was good.

Not sure if I like it more than Minecraft or Creativerse but when I played it a month or so ago it was still a good game.

I’ve been waiting for this one. I liked the Logan’s Run gate things a lot.
