Global Chat: Cheering on an online friend’s success in Wrath Classic

We almost need no prompting to eagerly share our latest accomplishments and milestones in MMORPGs. And while it certainly is fun to talk about oneself, these are social games where — hopefully! — you begin to care about the success of your friends and guildies.

So take Parallel Context’s post as an example for us to aspire as we lift up our friends: “I’ve been proud of her given that she’s new to healing for this expac, and I know from experience that she’s gotten really good at it. Part of this is that she attacks the game like a puzzle to be solved, figuring out how to get the BiS gear she needs, and picking the brains of people she knows and respects who are better at healing than her.”

MMO Casual dipped back into Elder Scrolls Online for Necrom: “So no spoilers at all on the story, but I found it engaging. The new zones are well put together, and there’s a lot of good content there. The story itself was pretty typical ESO fare but still very engaging.”

Kamalia et Alia is lukewarm on the upcoming World of Warcraft patch: “The PTR reports of the Eon’s Fringe activities are leaving me feeling like most of those quests will have my characters saying, ‘Sorry, Chromie, you’re going to have to find another adventurer to do this for you.'”

The Ancient Gaming Noob gave an analysis of LOTRO’s long-term project roadmap: “And then, at the bottom of the list, is support for larger monitors and higher screen resolutions. But at least it is actually on a list. They’ve been talking about it in vague ways since 2016. Of course, it could fall off the list or get pushed down if their next big feature brings even more lag to the table. But at least they acknowledged it is something that is hurting them when the game gets reviewed these days.”

24 Hours In continues to blog through City of Heroes’ Going Rogue: “Sinclair’s counterpart in Paragon City, Manticore, has always been something of a Batman expy, and while I can’t say how intentional it is – it’s not so on the nose as to be a straight parody – the details of how Praetor Sinclair recruits and shapes his elite agents can come across as a rather cynical take on the Bat-Family. There’s a subtly nasty undercurrent to the way Sinclair talks about how he ‘rescued’ one of his proteges from her parents.”

The Friendly Necromancer just dinged 60 in Diablo IV: “Sometime yesterday I hit 60th level on my eternal druid while undertaking the hunt for all the Lilith statues in the game. I did indeed track down all 160 of them! Some of them were pretty well hidden too! You really had to be listening for the Lilith statue hum and small glow of red light to find a few of these. The guides are great, but sometimes a little grey icon on a map just isn’t enough.”

And speaking of milestones, Gnomecore crossed some in Final Fantasy XIV: “I’m finally resting in a roulette daily cadence until level cap. I don’t like the alt leveling part in ARR for a number of reasons – the only reliable and the fastest source of XP is the same dungeon grind, the feeble number of abilities, your rotations are primitive, and many jobs even lack AoE. And the hunting log – which is completely optional, yet totally saves a significant number of dungeon runs as a huge chunk of XP. So yeah… you kinda don’t need to do it, but you absolutely do.”

Every day there are tons of terrific, insightful, and unusual articles posted across the MMO gaming blogosphere — and every day, Justin reads as many as he can. Global Chat is a sampling of noteworthy essays, rants, and guides from the past few weeks of MMO discourse.
