It’s weapon proliferation day in Guild Wars 2! OK, OK, it’s the “Expanded Weapon Proficiency Beta,” otherwise known as your first chance to try out the new weapons coming to each class in the next big Secrets of the Obscure seasonal patch early next year.

“Each of our nine professions will have access to at least one new weapon and a smattering of new skills, which you can preview today! The Expanded Weapon Proficiency beta event begins today and runs until 10:00 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-8) on December 3. Please keep in mind that since this is a beta test, there will be placeholder UI, art, and audio for some of the weapon skills.”

In case you somehow missed all the promo, ArenaNet put out nine dev blogs with videos on the weapon additions.

Everyone – yes, even F2P accounts that don’t own the expansions – can log in and test out the event using the free beta character slots on your account. Those slots will disappear, along with the toons themselves, when the beta ends at 1 a.m. EST on December 4th.

Patch notes are already live, with improvements to fishing, relics, Ranger pet families, and nearly every class spec. Also worth noting is that ArenaNet has rejiggered Secrets of the Obscure’s unlocks to ensure that “once any character has finished Chapter 6, all characters on that account can start Chapter 11, as it assumes players have the Heart of the Obscure, rift hunting, and the skyscale unlocked.” It’s your alts’ time to shine.

Meanwhile, this adorable plush went into the game today in an attempt to part your money from you.
