We’re taking a tour back through our MMO coverage, month by month, to hit the highlights and frame our journey before we launch into 2020 and a whole new decade of MMOs!

February sucked. Activision-Blizzard turned in a record financial quarter and promptly laid off 800 people in what devs called a “bloodbath,” prompting union organizers to call for Bobby Kotick’s job. Then Guild Wars 2 studio ArenaNet followed it up by laying off a third of the company and canceling several unannounced games. And then Daybreak delayed PlanetSide Arena to summer and refunded everyone.

On the upside, we began hiring new columnists, Elder Scrolls Online dropped its Wrathstone DLC, EA launched Anthem and Apex Legends, Funcom announced a Dune IP MMO, and we got a good look at Amazon’s New World.
