The Daily Grind: What are some cool demonyms for players of different MMOs?

You’re probably wondering what a demonym is, so I’m gonna tell you up front: No, it’s not your demon name; it’s the descriptive noun that describes a person from a specific place. So for example, I’ve been a Cincinnatian, Burqueña, Sacramentan, and Philadelphian. (No lie, I literally never heard the term Sacramentan the entire time I lived in California. Had to look that one up. And yes I am contractually obligated to live only in cities that nobody can spell.)

OK, so why are we talking about this on an MMO blog? Because I wanna hash out some fun demonyms for MMOs! Our writers were grousing the other day because we were tired of always having to write “WoW players” and “Guild Wars 2 gamers” and so on. We need more colorful names!

The one that immediately pops to mind is RuneScape, which calls its players Scapers. It’s perfect. Or how about Warframe? There, players are Tenno. And remember back when the Korean WoW website called players The Wowzers? Come on, that’s so bad it’s good! My guildies used to giggle about that all the time.

Tell me some cool demonyms I don’t know about! What word do you use for the players in your favorite MMO? Even better, if your game doesn’t have one, what should we start calling people who play it?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
