Make My MMO: You can’t launch people from catapults in Ashes of Creation, but you can attend a play in Shroud of the Avatar

This week week in MMO crowdfunding, Ashes of Creation posted up a sizable Q&A on Reddit, telling its community that it’s still working on support tickets post-website-migration; the devs also say the game will have 8-person base groups up to 40-person raids, the corruption system is “here to stay,” hitboxes are still undergoing balance, dual-wielding and taming are happening, live events are a good possibility, and no you will probably never be able to launch players from catapults. “We are currently working on showing some of the progress we have made since Alpha Zero for the node systems and other major systems,” the devs says. “Soon ™ (But seriously, soon.)”

[Update: Reader Dao let us know that this event has been postponed! The original text follows.] If you’re reading this as it’s going live Saturday night, and you’ve got Shroud of the Avatar installed, maybe swing by this player event: SOTA players are invited to a play tonight at 9 p.m. EST! “On Saturday, February 9th at 8PM Game-Time (US-Central) the New Britannia Theater Troupe will be performing a staged play called ‘Daggers In The Dark’. The location will be the Sabras Rosé Theatre located in Rifts End POT. The grand theater is located ‘downstairs’, accessible via the crypt on the first floor which will remain locked until final rehearsals are completed.” (Thanks, Victor!)

Meanwhile, Crowfall delayed its sanctioned campaign, Star Citizen released its January status report on the PU, Albion Online kicked off its Carnival Challenge, City of Titans teased its character creation system, Project Gorgon pushed its next update off a week, Elite Dangerous posted squadron leaderboards for its first season, Chronicles of Elyria posted up a lengthy piece of lore, and the new Glitch reboot opened a Patreon.

A little off topic but early in Hexen 2 you need to launch yourself over a wall with a catapult to progress. Always did love that one.

Meh, come on AoC. Make it possible to catapult bodies and or players! *grin*

40-man raids… Hm, maybe there will be kind of megaserver? Cool then

From the sounds of it my enjoyment of AoC seems to be completely dependent on how harsh corruption will be. It would have to be pretty severe for me to enjoy it but I seriously doubt that will be the case.

PvE content is only such when player killing can be avoided, otherwise its PvP content.

I am no Ashes of Creation follower but things appear to be getting uncomfortable from what I’m seeing out of its community posts and videos.

– Soon after Steven Sharif (Studio Head) obtained the official Reddit sub which they now operate, they took down their official forums due to ( what they claim was a database corruption) backlash and complaints of lack of transparency, 6 months straight of radio silence on progress of the game.

– They replaced the Community Manager, kicked people from content creator/streamer circle and removed some predominate community members who held mod/mediator roles including DeathsProxy, their main Youtube promoter.

There very well be a rational explanation or just coincidental timing for all of this but from whats being posted, its not being explained as such.

I don’t know much about this game as I never got hyped about it, every time I see news about it, my only reaction is “meh”.
