Make My MMO: Looks like Edengrad and Divergence Online are abandoned

This week in MMO crowdfunding, we’ve got a long overdue status update on a pair of crowdfunded titles on our list, Divergence Online and Edengrad. Divergence Online, known largely for its drama spikes and apparent, er, borrowing of other games’ assets, ran multiple crowdfunding campaigns in the mid teens to build a SWG-esque sandbox; unfortunately, the game appears to have stalled out in early access on Steam, as multiple reviewers now report the game not only hasn’t been updated but no longer runs at all. A survival spinoff, Divergence: Year Zero, doesn’t seem to have fared much better.

Edengrad, for its part, was a Kickstarted survival title originating in 2017 that appeared to have been abandoned until it was sold last summer. Unfortunately, a check-in on the game’s Steam page makes clear that the game still hasn’t been updated since its early access launch in 2017 and once again appears to have been left to rot. Here’s hoping we’re wrong and that backers eventually get what they paid for.

Meanwhile, it’s been almost non-stop newsflow on Albion Online’s upcoming Queen update, Elite Dangerous launched its January bug-fixing update (and the update that fixed all the bugs in the bug-fixing update too), Crowfall and City of Titans both teased big UI changes, Valiance Online dropped a brand-new flythrough video, Chronicles of Elyria is hiring, and Temtem is gearing up for its early access launch.

Read on for more on what’s been up with MMO crowdfunding over the last few weeks, plus our roundup of all the crowdfunded MMOs we’re following!

Albion Online

Yes, some crowdfunded MMOs most definitely do succeed. But others crash and burn, and you need to hear about the whole spectrum of games that sought your money early in exchange for the promise of input and transparency. And that’s exactly what Make My MMO does every Saturday. Help us keep ’em accountable, would ya?

Elite Dangerous “update that fixed all the bugs in the bug-fixing update too” is far from true, sadly. The graphics f*ckup alone has left the console version still barely playable. Frontier says they’ll try to fix it this week.

Edengrad is in a weird limbo where the developer went through bankruptcy, got investments, and is presumably working on the game again but hasn’t actually said anything about the game since their “coming soon” cryptic message at the end of 2018. They are still raising money by selling shares though.

After reading the list of game would have to say I did not know so many games where in indy dev and so many will most likely be failures. I used to get super excited for games in development but now a days even if I am super excited would not want to play till full release as early access holds no value for me to be a paid beta tester.
