Were you too busy gaming this week to pay attention to MMO news? Get caught up every Sunday evening with Massively Overpowered’s Week in Review!

The Elder Scrolls Online made its way to consoles this week, though it’s not been without login problems and setbacks that linger even today as I type this. Here on MOP, we discussed the pros and cons of the console version and whether it was worth the wait, while Bethesda threw a few million guides and videos at clueless newbies.

Meanwhile, Star Wars: The Old Republic casually announced a new expansion, followed by a leak that if true suggests a major shift in BioWare’s story plotline.

Read on for the very best of this week’s MMO news and opinions.

I find the additional inventory sub groupings they provide on the console help me a lot. When at the bank I’m still decently fast because there are a few subgroups I just dump into the bank and things move quickly. But, yeah, not as convenient as some of the better add-ones.

karmamule bryanjturner I’m like you, so I tried them both.  I just can’t play the game on console with the inventory management addons.  Seriously, it takes me about 1 minute on PC to manage 130 slots of crap I pick up via bank transfer, dustman, etc.  On the console it takes 10.

That alone will keep me on the PC.

Karl_Hungus Xomon Then why didn’t they group PS4 and PC together like they do on FFXIV?

bryanjturner I am a bit of an ESO nut and have it on PC as well as PS4 AND Xbox One.  (I know I know, totally silly but it entertains me).  I do think the controllers work much better than keyboard/mouse in general.  (They make good use of vibration in combat and lock picking!)

I also think the console UI is *mostly* better than the out-of-the-box PC UI, but of course w/o add-ons for the consoles you have much less flexibility overall. At least the console UI does some things the basic PC UI should have done in the first place.  For example, show specific missing ingredients for a recipe you’re trying to make, or show the known effects of alchemical ingredients when you are thinking of harvesting them.

Xomon I could see them defending it on grounds of immersion, perhaps, but then ZoS made the incredibly baffling decision to show account names rather than character names in the world.  The two decisions just don’t mix, IMO.

Ha! That’s something you won’t hear me do, and I love ESO! The lack of text chat is ridiculous, and … well, good luck enjoying the game without it, I suppose.
