Global Chat: Reporting from the land of Throne and Liberty

Heartless Gamer put down a whole lot of thoughts about the recent Throne and Liberty global beta, saying that while the MMO has plenty going for it, including graphics and performance, it’s not a slam-dunk by any means.

“I can tell you that this beta was nothing like what I got out of New World’s open beta or more recently Once Human’s. Both of those games hooked me and I ran out the clock on their betas and was happy to repeat at the launch of both. With Throne, something just didn’t fit together as well. The combat being mediocre and the lack of an actual game economy are not great selling points.”

Read on for more MMO blog essays about Wuthering Waves, World of Warcraft, Fallout 76, and more!

Inventory Full continues to nurse a crush on Wuthering Waves: “The tide has yet to turn on my obsession with Starry’s survival MMORPG but today I did at least manage to tear myself away for long enough to log into Wuthering Waves, finish some quests and reach Union Level 30. I also took a whole bunch of screenshots because damn! this game is beautiful!”

Priest with a Cause was on the ground for The War Within’s pre-patch: “Mostly I just looked around a lot. There’ve been a lot of small changes to various parts of the UI like updated icons, and it all looks very busy. I’m sure I’ll get used to most of it over time, though I am a bit cranky that they decided to get rid of the green exclamation mark over undiscovered flight masters after twenty years.”

Virtual Bastion is wandering in Fallout 76 once again: “All in all, Fallout 76 is so far a welcome return. I’ve devoted many hours to many games, but something about this one just hits differently. It’s a space that’s comfortable; one that I like to inhabit and make my own for a few hours at a time.”

Dragonchasers shared a very old character introduction written for the early days of MMOs: “It was a character introduction I’d written in the way back times. The timestamp on the file says 2014 but since it appears to be an intro for my Dark Age of Camelot character, I’m guessing it was written somewhere around the launch window of that game, which was 2001.”

The Ancient Gaming Noob returned to No Man’s Sky: “I will say, with an hour of play in as I write this, that it does certainly guide/engage the player more directly. It has a story… or at least a set of immediate objectives, the first of which is stay alive on the radioactive hell hole planet you’re dropped on and fix your ship so you can, if you wish, go elsewhere.  But that is something! I’ll take that.”

Tales of the Aggronaut is having fun being huge in FFXIV: “I legitimately did not expect to grow to like Roegabel… but I gotta say I am digging it. Tanking random dungeons feels specifically fun because I am ginormous and can play fully zoomed out while also knowing exactly where my character is in relation to effects.”
