Global Chat: What should we be thinking about Guild Wars 3?

The surprising (and not surprising) news that ArenaNet has the go-ahead from NCsoft to develop Guild Wars 3 sent ripples of interest, confusion, and curiosity throughout the fandom. Riding that wave is MMO blog Nerdy Bookahs, who attempts to sort through feelings on the matter.

“I love the Guild Wars franchise, the lore and everything around it. So of course, I am happy to hear about a continuation and of course, I will be following any news that we’re going to get about it and maybe the game will even be something I will want to play.”

Read on for more MMO essays covering Noah’s Heart, ESO, FFXIV, Path of Exile, and SWTOR!

Inventory Full bids farewell to Noah’s Heart: “Noah’s Heart won’t come back. No-one is going to emulate it. No-one is going to buy it. It’s dead, or it will be by the end of April. That’s a shame. It was a good game in its way and I’m sure it was someone’s favorite and they’ll be distraught.”

Tales of the Aggronaut made some plans for Path of Exile’s newest season: “I think I was pretty much the only person who really played much Crucible and that is maybe the league that I had the most fun with. I have a few other friends who are going to be either trying the game for the first time or coming back after a long absence, so it will be interesting to see how that all shakes out.”

The Old Republic Era went on a date in SWTOR: “This was a much-needed addition to the game because I’ve been feeling rather meh about romances in general since they never go anywhere once you reach a certain point in the story. I even wrote about this a while ago stating that new romances were overrated because those relationships eventually fall to the wayside.”

In An Age examines Hearthstone’s evolving monetization: “Now, nobody needs to know the machinations that transpired that resulted in my declining to spend money on Hearthstone, but I’m going to tell you anyway. Because, well, I certainly found it interesting.”

MMO Juggler explored Elder Scrolls Online’s endgame: “Note: A trifecta in ESO means completing the content by fighting the bosses in 1) hard mode, taking 2) no deaths, and within a time limit for a 3) speed run. You get a title, and sometimes some extra gizmo like a special mount or memento to flash around.”

Kaylriene shared hopes and fears for FFXIV’s upcoming expansion: “Dawntrail is going to be in an interesting spot, as it will demonstrate what the vision of the FFXIV team is for the future of the game, both in story terms with the resolution of the long-term Hydaelyn and Zodiark saga but also in gameplay terms.”
