The MMO industry moves along at the speed of information, and sometimes we’re deluged with so much news here at Massively Overpowered that some of it gets backlogged. That’s why there’s The MOP Up: a weekly compilation of smaller MMO stories and videos that you won’t want to miss. Seen any good MMO news? Hit us up through our tips line!
This week EverQuest II unlocked the next chapter of its time-locked expansion server. We’ve got that plus stories and videos from Final Fantasy XIV, City of Titans, Path of Exile, Age of Wushu 2, and more, all waiting for you after the break!
New Games and Testing
- City of Titans: Learn more about Scorpion, a massive villain organization bent on world conquest, with this new lore post.
- Valiance Online: Speaking of superhero MMOs in the making, this game is prepping a new alpha patch containing “character creator 3.0.” It should go live later this month.
- Age of Wushu 2: This upcoming game’s starting zone of Jiangnan will be huge — really huge. Sixty million square meters of huge. And that’s just the first zone.
- Project Gorgon: Synchronized dancing? Oh, it’s coming — and it’s on, people.
Patches
- Flyff: Turning Point Part 1 is now live in the game, bringing with it the Rhisis’ Trail dungeon, a card upgrade system, new guild war rewards, and better compatibility with Windows 10.
- EverQuest II: Stormhold, one of the game’s time-locked expansion (TLE) shards, has opened up the Rise of Kunark content for its community.
- World of Warships: Does the news of a new line of German warships get you to stand at attention and salute? If so, check out the 0.5.10 patch today! [Thanks ThatLanteshGuy!]
- Vainglory: This popular mobile MOBA got an update that includes a new hero, the mage Samuel.
Events
- Riders of Icarus: Get an overview and the schedule for the game’s new manastone battles. What are these? “The main objective of a Manastone Battle is to capture the Vantara Manastone with your team and return it to Aramath the Arcanum Mage.”
Odds and Ends
- Twitch: As you’ve probably heard, Twitch purchased Curse and is incorporating it (somehow) underneath its gamer umbrella. [Thanks everyone who sent this in!]
- Final Fantasy XIV: Plushie collectors can expand their collection with the new Cait Sith doll. Buying it also grants you cat ears in the game and I am officially too old for this.
- Cabal Online: The long-running MMO will be getting a new operator in Southeast Asia, with ESTgames taking over the day-to-day operation of the title. The switchover will take place in September.
- Path of Exile: The upcoming Atlas of Worlds will include 11 new base items only found in these expansion regions. This past week, the team revealed five of them. Amaze yourself by reading them!
- Skyforge: Delve into the recent discovery of the Borru Catacombs with this lore piece.
