About Shroud of the Avatar, man… as an old Ultima fan I remember being so super excited about the project and backing it a couple of years ago. Logged in and ended up really disappointed. Obviously it was very much a work in progress, but I think Justin articulated very well the feeling you get when you try it. There is just something “off” and fractured in how the game is put together. How sad to hear that that is STILL the experience. They had their launch now of course and you would think that I’d dig out my old login info and at least go and have a snoop around, but that previous experience left me seriously uninterested, even to the point of not even bothering with the launch. For me, it’s not even about blunt new player experience, Wurm certainly doesn’t do that and is much more hard core and I love the game regardless! SOTA just felt very restricted. The housing model was restrictive, exploration was restrictive. Not sure if that has changed. Loved the bit about player body shapes. Yes PLEASE! And such a brilliant point the reader had about how you can barely see all the little details in the face, but you will notice differences in body shape from afar. So true! And why is it that every time there’s the option to choose a larger frame, they automatically bundle that together with ugly. Pffft!

Asheron’s Call also had the hold/release jump mechanic. Made for some great jumping puzzles.

Good luck with making some gold in GW2 with SAB Bree! I remember you mentioning that last year.

Tourist mode! i asked about this before and you guys answered my question in episode 115, i want this mode in most games, single player games can do this easily, MMO need some work, maybe make a server just for this mode … whatever work needed for this mode, please .. someone .. just do it.

In Assassins Creed Origins it works really well. It offers some insight into both how the game is made, what compromises to reality the devs made for gaming purposes and also how they matched up with actual historical facts about the period the game portrays.

I could see it working in an mmo using phasing and I would really like to see the same sort of insight into how the games are made but also as a way to reinforce the games own internal history whatever it may be.
