Massively OP Podcast Episode 286: Cantha, Shadowlands, and New World

On this week’s show, Bree and Justin celebrate a great week of MMO news, including Guild Wars 2’s official expansion announcement, WoW: Shadowlands’ release date, and reports from New World’s playtest. There’s also a good collection of listener mail, such as the origin of Massively OP’s Mo and how to recover from burnout.

It’s the Massively OP Podcast, an action-packed hour of news, tales, opinions, and gamer emails! And remember, if you’d like to send in your own letter to the show, use the “Tips” button in the top-right corner of the site to do so.

Speaking of Larry, is he ok? I’d noted for some time that we hadn’t seen much if anything from him on the site. So I got curious and checked his Twitter and he doesn’t appear active. :/ Also his blog is no longer there.

I have a habit of listening to every episode of podcasts I subscribe to in chronological order. I used to listen during the commute to work, but my office has been work-from-home since the first week of March.

It’s Sunday September 7, and I’ve just finished listening to Episode 270, released May 5.

I think I’m going to have to skip to late August or something.

I really would like New World to have a comeback of sorts. I’ve already seen people writing it off, and it just gets tiring to see MMOs come out and flop. I do wonder if the delay will be enough to round it out though.

Repurposing old zones needs more attention by MMO developers, though more so in making them relevant over revamping them altogether. There’s a place for the latter, but it can be a double-edged sword with losing out on content if done a certain way.

I’ve dealt with burnout by focusing on other things I enjoy and coming back when I have the desire. It’s never been fun when I focus on that burnout and end up feeling frustrated over it. That can still happen to me, but I try to avoid it.
