Why is it that so many sites give credence to the fact that EVE Online currency (ISK) has any monetary value ? Just because you can buy ISK with money doesn’t give it value. You need to be able to both buy ISK with money and *sell* ISK for money for it to have any value. Since CCP bans the sale of ISK for money, it is utterly valueless. That dude didn’t lose 20,000$. He lost nothing of any monetary value. He did lose time, and I suppose you could make an argument for opportunity cost, but since EVE is entertainment, that becomes a shitty argument.

I know it sounds nitpicky, but in order for a commodity to have monetary value, you need to be able to trade it, which means being able to buy AND sell it. ISK is basically like the little tickets you got as a kid at places like Chuck E Cheese which says no monetary value.

Generally people do it because not everyone plays EVE, so most people don’t know the difference between 20, 20K, and 20M ISK. Translating it back into real dollars, which CCP makes pretty easy, gives everyone a proper frame of reference for how painful the theft really was.

Hold the phone, Sypster, Bree was trying to express a comment before you interrupted her, as we of our gender are wont to do.

Personally, I had a deep interest in allowing Bree to fully express her comment as I am extremely curious: What–if any–flaws are there in STAR TREK ONLINE’s business model?

It’s genuinely free to play, not pay-to-win, from level one to max level, with no game content behind paywall, with plenty of free gear, costumes and mounts (vs locking all the cool-looking loot in a cash shop), and the items sold in the cash shops are mostly cosmetic, or mainly affect your style of play versus turning on God-Mode for you to faceroll and roflstomp through zones.

The one truly irritating thing I’ve found in the 3-4 years of playing it was it flashing in the middle of the screen whenever someone won the grand prize in a lockbox. However I finally was able to turn that “feature” off due to someone at Massively OP forum telling that’s an option in the game–but not in the normal Options section but in an auxiliary options section accessed through an arrow on the right edge of the screen. So that irritant has been removed.

Man, I remember mentioning that “Tips” name issue ages ago. It’s amusing to hear it mentioned randomly. No, I’m not complaining, just musing about that mention.

It’s in our nitpicking nature. :D

Wait, is this about “Tips” sounds like it’s a way to donate small sums of money (ala a “Tip jar”), which is what I thought it was for years, vs a way of submitting “News Tips”, which is what it’s actually for?

Yup. You’re living proof of that concern then.

That Elf MMO sounds like the Erfworld webcomic, which has 24 known types of elves including Boring Elves, Jam Elves, Spawncamper Elves & Superfluous Elves:

Definitely second the recommendations of Warframe, GW2 & SWL as F2P sidegames!

I’ve really been enjoying Rift as a F2P game.
I mainly explore and collect artifacts/dimension items.
Some nice person gave me a bunch of 24 slot bags, so that helped out a lot.
I know I’ll need to pay for more bag slots and AH rights eventually, but, so far it hasn’t hindered my experience.

Game is releasing in roughly 90 days. Forget whatever they call it. This game is going to release in a state of poop.
Refunds need to be made in the next week I believe. Get em while you can.

Ug man there’s no way they are ready. Early access, too early even for that.

WWO shows some promise, and a player base who seem keen on RP. I’m cautiously optimistic about this game. Hopefully won’t be too many bad guys in the world ruining it. But as a playable alpha, it works. I don’t think we can ask too much more of it right now.

I do look forward to female avatars, and I hope that the avatar builder has more than just some “faces” and skin colour. Although it may end up being pretty simplistic, I can dream, eh?

I was expecting more from the WWO alpha. Considering the game is supposedly months away from release it is very under-cooked. I bought into the alpha at the top tier but have since asked for and received a refund from Xsolla who are managing payments.

I think I was expecting something more along the lines of Red Dead Redemption but this seems more like an open world survival game with western themed reskins. The market is saturated with open world survival games.
