I’m feeling kinda creeped out by the whole Kenny G foot massage thing…
But Shadowy Forest is my favourite zone in Secret World too, it doesn’t have any of my very favourite NPCs in it but it does have such a cool collection of places and monsters and lore!
Limited availability non-instanced housing in MMOs is an instant turn-off for me, not just because of the risks of losing your house in server merges but also because I find it too reminiscent of real-world inequality.
I do not blame MJ for mentioning the sanitisers at PAX. I went to GenCon about 3 weeks ago, and I am still suffering the effects of Con Crud. I still have a cough I just can’t get rid of.
Don’t blame MJ, Trion likes to break your heart and MJ’s been very patient with them.
Sweet mercy the rants about flying in WoW were out of control. It’s never bothered me (or any of my friends) that I can’t fly in a new expansion or zone. It seems obvious to me that it completely breaks a lot of questing and eliminates the sense of danger as one explores…why the huge frustration? Unlocking flying in Legion was a pretty easy process if one played through the game naturally – it was not a huge burden or grind like WoD.
I think the point being made was that if Blizzard were not being lazy and designed the zones so that the danger was always present whether you are flying or not then it would be a better gaming experience no matter how you decide to travel around it. However they take the easy route put in an arbitrary no fly zone in and call it a day, which some folks don’t seem to like.
Before you or anyone else jumps on me I have no horse in the race as I don’t play WoW anymore. I am only explaining the argument being presented in the podcast as I understand it, take it or leave it as you wish I don’t really care. :-)
Right. My complaint isn’t even about not being able to fly. I’m perfectly happy in MMOs where there is no flight. The complaint was specifically that Blizzard keeps designing zones as if flight doesn’t exist, as if it’s designing for a game from a decade ago, instead of facing up to the game it actually has, which is stupid. It spent years building up flight, asking players to invest in flight, selling flying mounts in the cash shop. To repeatedly shrug that off just because it’s too lazy/cheap/closed-minded/whatever to design for a game with flight? That drives me nuts. Blizzard can do better.
It feels like Blizzard has a dartboard with “YES” and “NO” and when they talk about a new expansion/area they ask “Do we include flying?” then throw a dart at the board. LOL
Oh I was totally nodding my head along with Bree’s rant, because she’s 100% correct. I have no idea why Blizzard keeps on designing various zones and systems as if they exist in a vaccuum, but that’s what they do, every time.
:P MJ is a smuggler! :P
It’s always the happy go lucky ones! No one ever suspects them!
