MMO Year in Review: The SWTOR vs. Guild Wars 2 showdown (October 2015)

18

This year, we’re taking a time-machine back through our MMO coverage, month by month, to hit the highlights and frame our journey before we head into 2016.

October 2015 was the battle of the MMORPG expansions as Guild Wars 2’s Heart of Thorns and Star Wars: The Old Republic’s Knights of the Fallen Empire both launched within the same week.

Meanwhile, Star Citizen fired back at haters, Defiance’s TV series was canceled, Funcom’s The Park launched, and CCP sold off everything related to White Wolf and the World of Darkness IP.

Check out the rest of October’s best MMO news!

For me, GW1 > GW2 (pre-HoT)  > SWTOR > GW2 (HoT).

GW2 took a major nosedive with HoT for me (I did not like the expansion at all) so now I’m back in SWTOR (as a subscriber, naturally).
Really, though, I’m just biding my time in SWTOR till ME4 comes out. :)

Xephyr If SoMuchMass can’t hate on GW2, he’d have nothing to post about.

Line with more hugs deekay_zero tsw feels like it’s in a pool of ky jelly and the combat feels even more weightless than most wildstar classes….

which only 2 wildstar clases feel weighty, and one more than the other… spellslinger feels punchy af while engineer follows loosely. then the rest feel weightless regardless of their place on teh power curve.

TSW has momentum, Wildstar is floaty.
Not that it’s a big deal, but it certainly isn’t made for platforming. Just double jump and look at that air time. It’s just nuts how weightless everything feels, and not just jumping but even running feels like molasses-land in low gravity._

A Dad Supreme well Childhood’s End was only a miniseries.   I would have liked one more season of Defiance.

Although Defiance (the show) was cancelled, I have to give SyFy credit.  They actually replaced it with better shows with better actors imo.
The Expanse, Childhood’s End and Magicians right now seem more than a better tradeoff to Defiance, which started to put me to sleep.

Sorenthaz People wouldn’t waste a second thinking about this when they just can say how much better is their skateboard compared to the other guy bike :D
It’s a common stuff in our society…we start from measuring body parts to videogames, lol.

There really isn’t a competition here, SWTOR’s expansion feels like a BioWare RPG (not exactly the same but close).  GW2’s expansion feels and plays like a F2P Chinese MMO.
