Make My MMO: Chronicles of Elyria backers lodge lawsuit, Wagadu snags more funding

This week in MMORPG crowdfunding, the backers of Chronicles of Elyria have officially lodged their class-action lawsuit against Soulbound Studios and Xsolla in a California district court. The suit alleges that Soulbound raised over $14M in crowdfunds and sales, almost half of which were conducted through Xsolla; that Soulbound misled backers about the state of the game; and that the game is no longer in production. It further alleges that Xsolla violated its own terms of agreement with users when it refused to to honor refund requests for pre-orders through which no content is delivered, and it demands restitution for all members of the class.

We note here that Soulbound Studios has claimed in recent months that it is once again working on Chronicles of Elyria. “Regardless of the state of the game (as alluded to by Jeromy [Walsh] in his recent updates) the lawsuit will go forward,” the leader of the lawsuit Discord said last week. “This will likely get us access to a lot more behind the scenes information about the true status of the game.”

Meanwhile, there’s been some good news for The Wagadu Chronicles as developer Twin Drums announced it has received a new infusion of funding. Plus, Dual Universe posted its latest newsletter, OrbusVR turned three, Elite Dangerous players warned about a new scam, and Albion Online rolled out Patch 13.

Read on for more on what’s been up with MMO crowdfunding over the last few weeks, plus our roundup of all the crowdfunded MMOs we’re following!

Frozen Flame

Yes, some crowdfunded MMOs most definitely do succeed. But others crash and burn, and you need to hear about the whole spectrum of games that sought your money early in exchange for the promise of input and transparency. And that’s exactly what Make My MMO does every Saturday. Help us keep ’em accountable, would ya?
