Make My MMO: Dual Universe’s beta – its ‘fully playable version’ – is up and away

This week in MMO crowdfunding, Dual Universe hit true beta, dropping its NDA and swelling its ranks far past the 20,000 testers who were already playing alpha. “We’ve met each one of our milestone goals since unveiling the updated roadmap late last year, and we’re now releasing what we think is a fully-playable version of Dual Universe, with many additions scheduled along the way in the coming months, leading to the final release in 2021,” Novaquark says.

Meanwhile, we penned thoughts on Crowfall’s beta, Albion Online kicked off its tenth guild season, Ashes of Creation decided to drop My.com as publisher in Europe and Russia, Valiance Online extended its open beta test, Ship of Heroes ran another invasion test event earlier today, Elite Dangerous teased Odyssey, and Past Fate managed to pull out a win with its Kickstarter, making up the last 20% of its ask in less than a day to score $25,000.

Read on for more on what’s been up with MMO crowdfunding over the last couple of weeks, plus our roundup of all the crowdfunded MMOs we’re following!

Past Fate

Yes, some crowdfunded MMOs most definitely do succeed. But others crash and burn, and you need to hear about the whole spectrum of games that sought your money early in exchange for the promise of input and transparency. And that’s exactly what Make My MMO does every Saturday. Help us keep ’em accountable, would ya?

Was going to give it a try but it’s an automatic resub that you can’t opt out of and you can only cancel by going through xsolla’s customer support. So I’ll have to give it a pass for that.

That’s not true. Your subscription link from xsolla has a link to stop it renewing. 2 clicks and you’re done.
I would recommend staying away from Dual Universe for a couple of days regardless as the game seems to be on fire and the poor server hamsters are suffering. Plenty of people aren’t able to play, and customer service is clogged up.

Well I was just quoting what it says when you go to sign up. Maybe I’ll go and give it a go if that’s not how it really is. Though I think I’ll watch a few more how to videos till the servers recover.

MJ tried to play it on stream. With only that as a reference, I’d say that “released” in any form is being pretty generous. O.O I’m almost certain she literally spent more time reloading the game and rebooting her entire system after hard crashes than actually doing anything. To add insult to injury every time it crashed, it randomized the colors on her character. (Apparently MJ is not fond of purple.)
