Perfect Ten: A guide to podcasts for your favorite MMOs

Clearly, your Tuesday schedule every week should have a big fat “LISTEN TO MASSIVELY OP PODCAST” written at 4:00 p.m. EST right on it. But once you’ve experienced that blissful hour of news analysis and Justin’s slow descent into senility (as well as the excellent bi-weekly Battle Bards podcast), what is there left to fill the void of silence that dominates the rest of your time?

There are plenty of podcasts out there that offer opinions and advice for your favorite MMOs, and it’s always nice to hear from people who are just as enthusiastic about these games as you are. In today’s list, we want to recommend 10 casts that are perfect for the MMO enthusiast, with the added goal of trying to cover 10 MMOs (instead of just spamming this with nothing but World of Warcraft shows).

surfing something.

Priority One Podcast (Star Trek Online)

Nearing 500 episodes, Priority One Podcast is a titan in the field — not just for covering Star Trek Online but also all things Trek. It’s always a joy to hear the crew enjoy the MMO and be superfans who interview the devs and debate the merits of every new ship or storyline.

Gather Together (Final Fantasy XIV)

There are many excellent FFXIV podcasts out there, but Gather Together seems to have developed a solid reputation for its positive and engaging format that gets a nod here. But if you’re looking for even more shows — and why not? — give Phoenix Down Radio, She Heals I Tank, Wondrous Tails, State of the Realm, Seconding Speakers of Hydaelyn, Aetheryte Radio, and MogTalk a listen.

The Starting Zone (World of Warcraft)

It’s entirely possible to fill up an entire week with nothing but WoW podcasts, but if we had to recommend just one, it’d be The Starting Zone, which specializes in teaching both newbies and veterans how to play the game. (OK, need a few more suggestions? There’s always World of Warcast, The Instance, Rolling Restart, and Ctrl Alt WoW — among many others!)

The Value Pack (Black Desert Online)

There aren’t that many Black Desert podcasts out there, but at least fans have The Value Pack to keep them entertained every week! This show is nearing 100 episodes, so you’ve got your work ahead of you if you want to binge it all.

Blooooooooooom

Forever Exiled (Path of Exile)

If clicking, looting, and repeating is what you live for, then chances are you live and breathe Path of Exile. In that case, can we serve you up a nice refreshing glass of Forever Exiled, a show by two die-hard fans who have been playing the game for the better part of a decade now? And if you need more, there’s always Fated Connections and Baeclast to keep you entertained.

The Wilderness Podcast (RuneScape)

Most podcasts have two or more hosts, but few are like The Wilderness Podcast, where the hosts in question are actually related. These brothers cover all sorts of RuneScape topics as they dive into iron man play and casual content alike. Also check out RSBANDBUpdate! if you are looking for a more news-centered show.

Fortnightly Frontier (Star Citizen)

Staying on top of the buckets of Star Citizen news and fandom is a daunting challenge, but Fortnightly Frontier is here to help those with limited time on their hand. The every-other-week show gives you what you need to know about Star Citizen and Squadron 42, and if that’s not enough, you can tune in to REEDcast, Sol Citizens, BoredGamer, The Pur’N’Kleen Podcast, and Guard Frequency.

Lave Radio (Elite: Dangerous)

Staying in tune with space sims, Elite: Dangerous has quite the podcast community. Lave Radio is one of those shows that’s perfect for long-haul space flights as the hosts get into the hardcore nuts-and-bolts discussion concerning the game. We’d also recommend Loose Screws, Sagittarious Eye Podcast, Elite Week, and Hutton Orbital Radio.

It's really more like orbital space than ground, of course.

Talking in Stations (EVE Online)

OK, we admit it: We’re giving the nod to Talking in Stations for the cheeky name alone because that is the most EVE Online thing ever. But there’s plenty of more EVE chatter on the airwaves with excellent shows like Declarations of War, The Meta Show, and Echoes of New Eden.

OotiniCast (Star Wars: The Old Republic)

Whether you’re a Jawa or not, you’re going to love OotiniCast if you’re into SWTOR. This podcast crew has been gabbing about their favorite MMO for more than 400 episodes now, so it’s practically an institution. Need more? There’s always Escape Pod Cast, The Usual Podcast, and Working Class Nerds.

Everyone likes a good list, and we are no different! Perfect Ten takes an MMO topic and divvies it up into 10 delicious, entertaining, and often informative segments for your snacking pleasure.
