MMO Week in Review: Wouldn’t it be awesome if Guild Wars 2’s next season were Cantha

8

It was a surprisingly solid week for Guild Wars 2, not so much because of one specific thing but because of the deluge: ArenaNet announced an event, a promotion, a patch, and a big reveal for August, plus we examined how the game is one of the genre’s better starter MMOs. (Yeah, I know, it’s probs not Cantha, but a girl can dream. Reluctant but deliberate use of subjunctive in title.)

Meanwhile, we mulled over the rumored World of Warcraft expansion leak, scouted out the Legends of Aria launch and PvP overhaul, and got dates for Elder Scrolls Online’s Scalebreaker DLC.

Read on to catch up with the very best of this week’s MMO news and opinions today as every Sunday in Massively Overpowered’s Week in Review!

Cantha was rad but if I had my pick I’d want an entirely new thing if it were a new continent.

If it was the GW1 team, I’d want Cantha.

I’m excited for GW2. There are a lot of places the game can take us. Even it’s not an entire new region, there is still a lot going on in the game right now. I feel it when I’m on, and there are people everywhere. Everywhere I go and every dynamic event I jump into has other people jumping in. It will be interesting where this goes.

No, it wouldn’t. HANG ON……hang on, just hear me out. I feel having having the next season be in Cantha would be an insult to the setting. It deserves it’s own full on expansion, like Path of Fire was for Istan.

I once floated the idea of a Cantha xpac to the community, and was told it’ll probably never happen. The reason being supposedly GW1’s Factions was not received well in China, and Anet wants to keep their GW2 Chinese audience happy. So, I do agree with you Bree, Cantha will probably never happen, and even though I don’t play this game anymore, it still makes me sad.

All signs point to us facing Jormag. We’ll find out on the 30th of August.

I still mostly enjoy GW2 and never seem to get away from it for too, too long, but I just wish they would find something to focus on other than increasingly fancy mounts. I still think the beetle mounts are one of the silliest things I’ve seen in an mmo.

Not a GW player, so i’m not huge on the lore or places.

What would be awesome for me, is that they fix most of the glaring issues plaguing this game from it’s inception.

GW2, believe or not, actually has ways of fixing it’s most core problems. Would be nice if they focused on that.

That’s okay because they aren’t huge on lore consistency. 😂 Compared to ESO, FFXIV, its a shit show.

To be fair, i really don’t care much for the main line of GW2 lore. Everything was pretty whatever to me. They seem to do better when they focus on “smaller” stuff. I had more fun checking the bandit conflicts, Inquest stuff and such, than i ever had caring about Orr and Zaithan.

Also, Orr was a piece of shit. Fuck that place.
