Ashes of Creation

Yes, some crowdfunded MMOs most definitely do succeed. But others crash and burn, and you need to hear about the whole spectrum of games that sought your money early in exchange for the promise of input and transparency. And that’s exactly what Make My MMO does every Saturday. Help us keep ’em accountable, would ya?

This time things will be different, guys!

Another MMO with unrealistically low funding request makes it to the front page.

This time it’s even worse than usual: 60k?? What’s that for 4-man studio, at MOST two months of operation? Three maybe if they’re super frugal? And 5k a pop for the stretch goals, promising complex systems for what is essentially a couple weeks of operation money at most?

When will people learn? They either don’t need the KS or can’t deliver on that kind of money. Either way, that screams failure. Stay away.

Orbus VR had a kickstarter goal of 10k, and made about 35k. Today Orbus VR is released on Steam with mostly positive reviews.

Now I haven’t played it myself, but this is proof that it is at least possible for a project with even less money to succeed.

Disclaimer: I did back Ilysia at a pretty high tier.

I’m tired of those boring mounts that move all the same way. At this point I’d rather have more teleports than this. It’s 2020, not 2000 godamit and only GW2 tried to do something different.
