It’s been a fairly dramatic couple of weeks for crowdfunded MMOs! Top of the pile is surely the fact that Kickstarted MMORPG Camelot Unchained has awakened from its slumber of the past few years: The studio, now calling itself Unchained Games, released its spinoff title Final Stand Ragnarok into early access just this past week, telling backers and gamers that Camelot Unchained itself is launching by the end of next year.

Star Citizen also surprised gamers by announcing that development is moving toward a full 1.0 release, though of course, there’s no timeframe. The news came against the backdrop of layoffs and staff departures owing to restructuring and demands that staff relocate to keep their jobs.

Meanwhile, we ventured into Wagadu Chronicles, Scars of Honor’s Kickstarter ended unsuccessfully, and both Zenith and Temtem announced halts to their MMORPG development in favor of spinoffs.

Read on for more on what’s been up with MMO crowdfunding over the last few weeks, plus our roundup of all the crowdfunded MMOs we’re following!

Yes, some crowdfunded MMOs most definitely do succeed. But others crash and burn, and you need to hear about the whole spectrum of games that sought your money early in exchange for the promise of input and transparency. And that’s exactly what Make My MMO does several times a month. Help us keep ’em accountable, would ya?
