The headstart for Bless Online’s early access open beta begins… now

I gotta be honest: I wasn’t entirely convinced this day would ever come. I’m referring to Bless Online’s de facto launch, of course. That’s because we’ve been watching this game’s development across the sea since 2011, and when it finally was announced to come westward in 2016 – after the Korean servers had already started merging down to just two – the port was almost immediately entangled in delays and do-overs until the western publisher, Aeria/Gamigo, backed out and Neowiz itself stepped into the void to self-publish.

And now, here we are. The headstart launch is slated for 1 p.m. EDT today, allowing preorder customers to charge into what is effectively a soft launch open beta that will not be wiped. Of course, there’s no preloading, and Steam founder packs don’t go on sale until the same time, so you’ll actually just be struggling to buy and download the game, but that’s sort of the same. Welcome to MMORPG launches!

Please note that only the Standard Edition pack can be refunded per Steam’s policy.

If you get the Deluxe or Collector’s Editions you cannot refund.

A non-sarcastic GL to those taking the dive!

Not correct. Got a refund for my deluxe ed.from steam just some minutes ago. I couldn’t even log in (as many people can’t).

Glad to hear you were able to refund. Hopefully others will get the same treatment if they desire one too.

Yeah, they processed my refund on my deluxe ed. Steam showed me playing for 6 hours (of course most of that was spent in queue or staring at the Bless screen), well outside of their 2 hour window, so they are being loose with their policy.

Interestingly, when you click the link, you will learn more, but not the reason why this particular product is not eligible for refund.

I would have preferred to learn more about platypus, but I guess a list of unrelated reasons for refunds will have to do…

You can’t normally refund DLC/Packs that contain in-game consumables, like this has the premium currency in it.

But they seem to be allowing it right now.

I just wanted to say I got the big package refunded by Steam no problem. A lot of people are reporting having a bit longer play time than I and still getting refunded. The last gasp for me was shop currency being bound to one character. Thanks, but no thanks!

This game is rehashed garbage. I looks, plays, and has an empty story like every other recent mmo to come out of the East.

IronSalamander8 .

I was somewhat interested in this at first but it’s been sounding like a hot mess in the news lately. Also reading earlier posts if real money currency is linked to a particular character that’s a big no from me.

Well i freely admit i’m in the “desperate for a new MMO” camp, so i took the plunge and picked up the standard founder edition.

My first impressions are mixed, but optimistic.

Pros:
– I find the graphics to be quite adequate and at times very nice.
– The combat system with the combos is dynamic and fun, and i never felt like it was overly chaotic or sluggish.
– The dialogue system at first reminded me of BDO, but even with somewhat lackluster voice acting and for some reason super lo-fi sound quality, the story is delivered much better than BDO.
– The instancing system is seamless and smooth. I really enjoy seeing that blue flash wash over the screen, because i know i won’t be bothered by other players camping mobs as i’m attempting to finish a quest. Yet the lack of loading screens makes the experience a lot more immersive.

Neutral:
It was launch day, so there was a crap ton of loading lag, action acknowledgment lag, and other related server issues. Examples include waiting for 30 sec to have the quest registered as completed, waiting 20 sec for an item in the inventory to register as sold, and a ton of stuttering as the servers are attempting to load a crapton of people in a single small area.

Once everything is loaded and caught up, i experienced no graphical lagging or stuttering, and at max settings the game is performing quite well.

Cons:
– The localization is abysmal, and very poorly implemented. There is a myriad of spelling mistakes, weirdly translated phrases, and the tutorial system (especially around stances) took me good 15 minutes to figure out on my own due to poorly explained tutorial. This is not something that can easily be patched in, and i really hope whoever is in charge of localization (publishers? developers? i’m not too familiar with the process) makes these fixes their priority.
– Stance dancing is a thing. I’m not generally a fan of this, and honestly it’s a bit too early to say how it will affect me, but i prefer having a single ability bar as opposed to constantly switching back and forth. This is unfortunately a must and not an option, as high level combos often give bonuses that are consumed by high level combos of the opposing stance. So if you want to maximize your damage/healing/whatever, you must dance away!
– Forced PVP. Never a fan of this, and i have no idea how it will actually feel once i’m at that level range, but i just wanted to preface that i dislike forced PVP in all MMOs.
– Voice acting / voice quality – more often than not the voice acting is subpar, and the quality of the voice is at a bitrate that can only be compared to old transistor radios used by the WW2 soldiers to hear news about the war. No idea what the reason is for this severe downsampling, but i hope there is a patch that fixes it.

Those are my initial impressions. Overall it wasn’t terrible, and i’m liking the game way more than i did BDO, so we’ll see how long this holds my attention.

I have a couple of friends that brought it but so far their reactions have been mixed . They say the combat is quite “fiddly” and might impact how good the pvp is in the game but there is also some nice aspects to it as well .

I’m glad I’ve decided to leave it a month or two to wait and see what its like .

Sorry but the game looks like garbage, unoptimized cashgrab bugfest mess. Giving it 3 months before it turns to ghost town.

I really wanted to buy this but i was watching streamers with good pcs play it on lowest graphics just to make it playable. It has serious performance issues that i hope will be resolved, and we dont even have the ability to try the game out. I will propably just buy a couple of months of swtor rather than gambling with my money if its playable or not.

Well it went pretty horrible for a lot of people including me. Since yesterday i was able to log in only one time. The rest of it i stared on the title screen and could not get to the servers. Now i know it is early access and with other games i guess i would have been more patient but Bless is already going to beta / ea for the fourth time now and i expected them to do better than the last three times.

This bug where you can´t get behind the title screen, i can remember that when i played that game in korea a long time ago. For me it does seem that the tech not really evolved. Anyway if this is not fixed very quick i will request a refund on steam, for the first time i must say….

I have a confession to make. My pigtails haven’t really been following this game too much. It sorta looks like FF XIV meets Game of Thrones. Where as in XIV, everyone is encouraged to hug each other; this game looks like it encourages everyone to gank each other. So perhaps I am looking at this with a degree of weariness and ignorance…

That said, feel free to for those who are playing this game to inform my said pink appendages of how it turns out. Cookies for those who post screens1 And good luck to everyone in there! :)

Bless is a hot mess. Quests that are so badly translated, they make no sense and you have to hope you guess correctly to be able to complete them. I’ve spent about as much time in game helping players that ran into the brick walls I had previously gotten over as I have playing.

Bless is a beautiful game. However seems uninspired and just too poorly translated to recommend at thi time.
